Jess Fox has continued her golden year after becoming world champion for the 8th time in her
career.
Jess took home the gold medal in the new Extreme Slalom event in Bratislava, Slovakia.
Incredibly, this is only the third time she has contested the event which will make its Olympic
debut in 2024.
"It wasn't my weekend this weekend in either the kayak or the canoe, so I just wanted to have fun in the extreme and it felt great to be out there." Fox said. "It was exhausting, mentally as well, because I had good runs and it just comes down to centimetres and a tiny bit of precision, and it's a huge penalty and you're out. I've had an amazing season, and this is a great way to finish”.
Jess also claimed her eighth world cup season title after winning gold, silver and bronze at the
ICF Canoe Slalom World Cup final in Pau, France. Hot off the back of winning gold and silver at
the Tokyo 2020 Olympics, Jess competed in the K1, C1 and the Extreme Slalom events in Pau,
securing the K1 World Cup season crown and finishing second overall in the C1 ICF World Cup
season standings.
These latest results take her total season wins to eight (5 x C1; 3 x K1) and total individual world
cup gold medals to thirty five.
After the event, Jess said:
“It is an amazing feeling to come out here today, to have some spectators. We haven’t had them all season, it was really special to be racing. And to win … I am thrilled,”.
