Jess Kicks Off 2022 Season With Back To Back Wins
Jess Fox has kicked off 2022 in style, claiming back to back wins in the first two competitions of the year. The season began with the 2022 ICF Oceania Championships where Jess claimed two golds in the C1 and K1 categories, and silver in the Extreme Slalom category. Following her triple medal victory two weeks later, she secured two gold’s (C1 and K1) and another silver in the Extreme Slalom at the 2022 Canoe Slalom Australian Open.
Stringing together strong final runs on both days of the Australian Open, Jess enjoyed paddling a more challenging course to earn her respective titles.
“It was a very challenging course, compared to yesterday [heats]…. very physical,” Jess said following her run in the kayak final in the Australian Open. “It was about 10 seconds slower than yesterday, and I definitely felt it in the arms. But alas, I’m happy with the win,” she said.
With international athletes not competing this year, the 27-year-old said she looks forward to welcoming them back hopefully next year.
“The thing I’m most looking forward to though is welcoming the international athletes back again, “It changes the racing dynamic, and makes us lift a lot more – at least that’s how I feel. I’m really looking forward to next year,” Jess said.
